LOS ANGELES, CA — Kobe Bryant is finally going to get his Screen Actors Guild card, it seems.
In spite of a career which has included three NBA championships, several scoring titles, and many other accolades, Bryant has never had a significant role in a major motion picture – but all of that is about to change.
According to SSNN sources, Bryant has received an offer to play the role of Mr. Big in the forthcoming Sex and the City movie. According to initial reports, actor Chris Noth, who played Big on the show during its HBO run, has another commitment that is going to preclude him from doing the role.
“The way it’s shaping up, yes, Kobe will be in the movie,” said a representative for Bryant, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “This movie, as much as anything, is going to provide answers about the way that things turn out between Carrie and Big. And, well, that’s all I’m going to say about what happens, because I don’t want to spoil too much of the plot.”
Bryant – who is black, tall, skinny, and young – will bring a different look to the real estate mogul character that Noth played throughout the show’s run on HBO. But Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays Carrie Bradshaw and is the star of the film, hopes it won’t affect the viewer experience.
“We’re going to be asking our viewers to suspend disbelief a little bit,” Parker said. “This is not your father’s Big. But in a sense, he’s going to be his own sort of Mr. Big, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Bryant will join Jennifer Hudson as the new additions to the City cast for the film, which is due to start shooting later in the year and will open next summer. Bryant has been training with an acting coach, and is looking forward to his debut.
“It’s going to be a lot of work,” Kobe said, “But I feel like I’m ‘Big’ enough for the job. Get it? Big!”
