Carson Palmer’s fantasy team puts up second-highest point total of week, loses

CINCINNATI, OH — Carson Palmer fell victim to the bane of every fantasy footballer’s existence Sunday when his team, Mr. October Gonzalez, scored 142.49 points, second highest total in his league, only to be edged out by his brother-in-law John’s Operation Enduring Fantasy, with 147.17 points.

“So fucking unrealistic,” Palmer said. “It’s the worst thing about fantasy – the head-to-head randomness of it all. When in the NFL have you ever seen the top two scoring teams of the week match up head-to-head? It just doesn’t happen.”

Palmer said he knew fairly early on Sunday that he was having a monster day. “Well, I had Ocho Cinco, and he was going nuts,” Palmer said. “I had ‘Fast’ Willie Parker, and he was having his normal good game – he’s really consistent, he’s my rock. I also had DreJay (Texans WR Andre Johnson), and I had Derek Anderson, which was a pretty shrewd pickup, if I may say so myself.”

However, Palmer’s brother-in-law’s combination of the good (Carolina) Steve Smith, 49ers tailback Frank Gore and the Bears defense/special teams (complete with a touchdown return from Devin Hester) was enough to top the Cincinnati QB’s big day.

“The real killer was that he had me,” Palmer stated. “I put up six TDs. I threw for hundreds of yards. Yeah, I had a couple picks, but come on – that’s a monster day. That’s hard for anyone to overcome. Derek Anderson is not going to win when Carson Palmer goes for a day like that.”
