MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor explained his earlier statements about the team’s star Kevin Garnett in a press conference held Sunday morning in an effort to sneak under the radar. On Monday, Taylor said that Garnett did not want to be traded and that Minnesota would not be moving him this off-season. Garnett can opt out of his contract at the end of the 2007-08 season.

“We’re going to bring an identity to this franchise,” Taylor said. “Somehow people forget that we’re the franchise that built teams around Christian Laettner and J.R. Rider – or was he Isiah then? I forget. I just hope we can get back to that point.”

The owner informed SSNN sources that he will not allow general manager Kevin McHale to trade Garnett, and instead will let him leave the team after next season, receiving no compensation in return. Taylor explained that “it’s not the right thing to do, it’s the Timberwolves thing to do.” He added that beyond this, he is not sure what the team will do.

“[Randy] Foye seems ready for a breakout season, so we may have to dump him,” Taylor said. “Other than that we’re just trying to find our Rashard Lewis. You know, that wildly over-rated guy who doesn’t deserve anywhere near a max contract. It’s a time-tested policy.”
