Sheffield accuses Yankees of further discrimination

DETROIT, MI — Outspoken major leaguer Gary Sheffield is at it again, this time claiming the New York Yankees treat players named after cities in an inferior manner to others. Sheffield had recently claimed that the Yankees treat black players unfairly, but his latest accusation tops all.

In an interview with reporters from the National Enquirer, Sheffield said, “You don’t see them signing any Chicagos or Detroits; no, they constantly go after players with names like Derek Jeter or Roger Clemens.”

When asked why he was signed by the Yankees in the first place, given that his first name is a city in Indiana and his last name one in England, Sheffield reportedly replied that “Management had never heard of either until the paperwork was signed, so instead they just told Joe Torre to treat me like dirt.

“Look. It was no accident that they let Orlando Hernandez leave prematurely, and failed to pull the trigger on a deal for Orlando Cabrera,” Sheffield continued when pressed. “If their names were Ricardo Perez, both would be wearing Yankees uniforms right now!”

Sheffield declined further comment saying he needed to go examine Derek Jeter’s DNA to confirm his racial make-up.
