Oden surgery largely successful

PORTLAND, OR — In a Monday press conference, the TrailBlazers reported that center Greg Oden’s tonsillectomy went well, and that the number one draft pick will be available for the start of the 2007-08 season. General manger Kevin Pritchard said at his weekly press conference that the surgery “couldn’t have gone better.”

“We know what Greg brings to the table, so him missing summer league games isn’t that big of a deal,” he said. “Before I take any questions, I’d like to hear any tonsillitis/ice cream jokes that you have.”

SSNN spoke with Oden’s dentist, Dr. Alan Smiles, about the surgery. Contrary to the team’s assurances, he said that the operation was not completely without problems.

“It took me about 30 minutes to realize that was his actual face,” Dr. Smiles confided in SSNN. “I just didn’t understand why this kid was wearing an ‘old guy’ mask. And while he was sedated, he admitted that he actually broke his wrist playing Wii Sports. You can put a lot of pressure on your wrist throwing a 90-mph curveball, you know. Everything’s cool with his tonsils, though.”
