Henderson hired to mentor reyes
FLUSHING, NY — The New York Mets announced this weekend that they have hired all-time base-stealing champ Rickey Henderson to coach first base, and to mentor young superstar Jose Reyes until he becomes the “biggest freak in baseball,” according to GM Omar Minaya. “He has so much talent,” Minaya said of the 23-year-old superstar. “But he is so well-behaved, calm, and in control. We want him to be a bit more crazy – we’d like him to seem closer to the edge.” Henderson scoffed at the challenge. “Piece of cake for Rickey. Rickey gonna teach him to talk to himself. Rickey gonna teach him to stand in front of the mirror. Rickey gonna teach him to refer to himself in the third person. Rickey gonna tell him who is the greatest… Which is Rickey,” Rickey said. “Oh yeah, Rickey prolly gonna teach him pitch selection, too.”
