Sports Guy gives self “A/A-”

LOS ANGELES, CA — Bill “The Sports Guy” Simmons announced today to his friends House and Bish that he is giving himself an “A/A-minus” on his annual NBA Draft recap column.

“Listen, it wasn’t perfect,” Simmons said. “I feel like I nailed some things. I nailed my convo with my dad perfectly – readers love that stuff. I talked about the Celtics for 90 percent of the column, which is always a fan favorite. I just wish I could have gotten a Rocky reference in there. That might be the only failing.”

Bish, for one, disagreed vehemently with Simmons’ self-assessment.

“An A/A-minus? Are you freaking kidding me?!?” Bish wrote in an e-mail. “That column was a freaking A-plus! That stuff about Big Baby was absolutely priceless!”

Bish did not clarify as to whether he was referring to Simmons’ initial reference about being sat upon by Glen “Big Baby” Davis, or his later recollection of the phone call that took place between Simmons and his father regarding the Celtics’ receipt of Davis with the 35th pick.

Word from ESPN is that Simmons will be back next year with his annual draft column, and that he’s already thinking of great new ideas.

“Next year’s minute-by-minute draft recap is going to be like the recent movie Rocky Balboa,” Simmons said. “It’ll give the readers what they want to see, and it’ll have a nice montage scene in it as well. See? I’m on fire already.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
