Piniella furious about Cubs’ blowup

CHICAGO, IL — Lou Piniella called a press conference before the Cubs game Saturday with the Atlanta Braves to explain the actions of Michael Barrett and Carlos Zambrano. The two got into a fight in the Cubs dugout during Friday’s game with the Braves before being broken apart by Piniella and teammates. Pinella came to the conference with multiple bruises and scars – apparently just having been in a fight himself. “I just wanted to once again say how disappointed I am with Barrett and Zambrano,” Piniella said. “I know this is a cliché, but the first rule of Cubs fight club is that you don’t talk about Cubs fight club, let alone act it out in public.” Piniella added that he and the team had just completed one of their fight club sessions, and that it would be the last of them thanks to Barrett and Zambrano’s public display and the sudden public scrutiny it has brought. “It’s tremendously unfortunate. It’s not like these guys want to come here and play baseball every day; that’s not what drives them. They come to the ballpark for the same reason I do, to fight.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
