Brees honored by Nagin, New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, LA — When the New Orleans Saints signed Drew Brees last year, few expected him to make the kind of impact he did over the course of his short time in the city. Not only did Brees excel on the field, he made a heroic effort in helping the people of the hurricane-ravaged city to heal and rebuild. In order to repay the Saints quarterback, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has declared the birth mark on the side of Brees’ face a historical landmark, and decreed that it will forever be a part of the city’s history. “Drew Brees is a special person, and everyone here in New Orleans was looking for a way to tell him how much we appreciate all he’s done,” the Mayor said during the ceremony. “That birthmark of his is basically New Orleans in a nutshell. It’s huge, mysterious, can be hairy in some parts and will absolutely never go away. This is a great day for the city and Drew Brees.” The mayor later said that stamps depicting the birthmark will go on sale sometime this year, and that the first in the series will be Mardi Gras-themed. Also, Brees will be placed on a float during the festival, with a giant magnifying glass in front of his face to allow everyone to see the beloved mark.
