Nowitzki loses MVP trophy
DALLAS, TX — In an apparent attempt to shake his “choker” label, Dirk Nowitzki announced a tournament earlier this week where the winner would receive his 2006-07 Most Valuable Player trophy. On Wednesday, Nowitzki was eliminated from his tournament, effectively losing the award. “I lost in the first round,” the Mavericks’ All-Star forward said. “Some 17-year-old kid I found on a court near my house beat me 11-9. I guess I just don’t deal well with these playoff-format events.” Nowitzki added that he does reserve the right to play to the eventual winner for the award, but the two consecutive first-round losses have obviously ripped away much of his confidence. “At this point, the only thing I can do is look to my muse – David Hasselhoff. His first album – Night Rider – was so awesome, so epic. Then he went through a dry spell before coming back with Magic Collection. I just have to find that kind of strength.”
