Grossman training with Leaf

CHICAGO, IL — After a season during which his play was widely criticized, Bears quarterback Rex Grossman took it upon himself to go beyond the call of duty in attempting to improve over the off-season.

“When I was struggling last year, I really felt that physically I was there,” the embattled QB told SSNN. “So my focus going into the off-season was to work on the mental side of my game. I think in Ryan Leaf I’ve found the perfect adviser.”

Grossman has been working with Leaf in the backyard of his suburban home, and says they’ve made considerable progress. “The stuff Ryan has taught me is completely priceless. I’m not gonna be the same guy, mentally – expect Rex Grossman with an edge in the 2007 season.”

In addition to referring to himself in the third person, Grossman said he and Leaf have talked about how to handle his relationship with the media and his teammates.

When asked his opinion on the pairing, former Leaf teammate Rodney Harrison told SSNN that “I have to believe Ryan can identify with Rex, at least as far as following up spectacular performances with utter stink-bombs. On the other hand, he’s a special kind of asshole, so I don’t really see the benefits.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
