Clemens to stay in minors

NEW YORK, NY — The New York Yankees announced that despite Roger Clemens’ success in his most-recent minor-league start, the team will leave the future Hall of Famer in the minor leagues for his next start. General Manager Brian Cashman said that the team has even discussed leaving Clemens in the minors for a longer period of time. “I hate to throw up the white flag, but we’re in fourth place, 12.5 games out,” Cashman said. “I understand that $28 million pro-rated is a lot of money to put into the minors but Toledo probably has a better chance of winning the World Series than we do.” When told of Cashman’s comments, Clemens told a group of reporters, “Hell, I can buy a World Series ring on eBay for $28 million.” The proposed move has caused quite a stir at Baseball America, where the top minor-league prospects list had to be changed. A source with the magazine told SSNN that Clemens will be rated as the minor leagues’ top prospect when the updated list is released next month.
