Carpenter injury actually from Red Rover

ST. LOUIS, MO — The St. Louis Cardinals took a big hit Saturday, learning Chris Carpenter will need surgery to repair bone spurs and is expected to miss the next three months of the season. The ace has been absent from the Cardinals’ rotation since opening day, and had been working tirelessly to get healthy.

Carpenter told media members that the elbow was bothering him some time before the season started, and he is not sure when it first began. According to SSNN sources, the 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner knows exactly when the injury occurred and has been lying to the Cardinals organization and fans because it occurred in an off-field accident.

“Two weeks before spring training started, So Taguchi had one of his legendary barbecues and things got a little crazy,” according to a current Cardinals player who asked to remain nameless. “Adam Kennedy got a big game of Red Rover together, and that’s when it happened. Carpenter called out Jim Edmonds and that crazy bastard charged full force and just dove right through the chain. Edmonds is crazy good at Red Rover.”

It seems Carpenter may have been trying to restore his reputation after Edmonds had easily stopped him at the previous Taguchi bash. SSNN confronted Carpenter, and the two-time All-Star confirmed this version of the events.

“To be honest with you, I really thought I could stop him – I just thought wrong,” Carpenter said, shaking his head in disgust. “After it happened, I looked him up on YouTube. Turns out there are clips of him blowing up people’s elbows across the country. He’s a Red Rover Hall of Famer, for Christ’s sake. I knew I should have picked Eckstein.”

He added that he intends to restrict himself to yard darts at the next barbecue.
