CHICAGO, IL — Jim Thome was seething mad after what he perceived as an “outright snub” in the Player of the Game voting Tuesday night. Thome, who hit two home runs and walked twice in the game, was overlooked in favor of starting pitcher Mark Buehrle, who threw a no-hitter and faced the minimum 27 batters. “How many times have you seen a guy hit two jacks in a game and not get P.O.G.?” Thome queried. “Never, that’s how many. This is a crock; I just want to know how much cash Buehrle had to hand out to get those votes.” Thome – who intends to contact the MLBPA about filing a formal complaint against Comcast SportsNet – said that on his ballot, Buehrle was third behind himself and Jermaine Dye, who hit a grand slam in the game. “He threw a no-no for nine innings. Great. I’d like to have seen him do it for 12 innnings. Or 15. Because that’s what he’d have to do to win without me and JD.”
