Texans trying to gauge fans’ wants

HOUSTON, TX — When the Houston Texans were awarded the first pick in the 2006 NFL draft, virtually everyone thought the team would pick between USC standout Reggie Bush and local product Vince Young.

The Texans, however, decided not to choose either of the highly touted prospects and went with defensive end Mario Williams. Fans were disappointed by the selection, and Williams didn’t do much during the 2006 season to win them over.

With the 2007 NFL Draft only a couple of weeks away, the Texans – in an effort to assure themselves a quality selection – have decided to ask fans to help them decide who to pick.

“In the next week we are going to send out a survey to a select group of fans that will list the players we are looking at,” Texans GM Rick Smith announced on the Channel 5 Evening News in Houston. “We’re asking them to vote on which player they would most like to see in a Texans uniform. Of course that’s not necessarily who we’re going to pick, but we like to make the fans think we care. I’ll tell you what though – that Reggie Bush is something else.”

Eventually the Texans would like to make it easier for fans to voice their concerns over the team. To that end, SSNN has learned that the team is currently developing a toll-free call-in line where fans can leave a message for team officials.
