BALTIMORE, MD — During Sunday afternoon’s second day of the NFL Draft, the Baltimore Ravens announced that they planned to release former Ohio State quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith only minutes after drafting him. Smith, who was taken with the last pick of the fifth round, was “very disappointed” by the news, but said that he was sure he would catch on with another team. “It was just a miscommunication, nothing more,” said Ozzie Newsome, the Ravens’ general manager. “We thought we were drafting the Heisman Trophy, not the Heisman Trophy winner. Live and learn, I guess.” Smith was very understanding of the mistake, even going as far to blame himself for the confusion. “It probably doesn’t help that I wear the trophy as a necklace,” he said. “Also, I probably shouldn’t have worn it during the combine – I just didn’t think everyone would make such a big deal over a couple tenths of a second. And before you ask, I only plan on playing my first year or two in the NFL with the trophy on. After that I’ll consider taking it off.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
