BOSTON, MA — Following the rousing success of his debut CD, Never Slow Down, Never Grow Old, Hall of Fame baseball scribe Peter Gammons returned to the studio to record a second album. Hardcore Gammons was released Tuesday, once again featuring Gammons on vocals and guitar but this time “reflecting a realer side of me,” according to the 62-year old ESPN stalwart. “It’s a lot like Rage Against the Machine circa ‘92, but kinda heavier,” Gammons told SSNN in a private interview. “I’ve always admired Zach [De La Rocha, Rage lead singer], but his raps are whack. I prefer to rhyme about what I know – drugs and violence.” Gammons added that he takes a lot of pride in his guitar work, describing himself as a modern-day Jimi Hendrix. “It’s not all about my dope vocals. You haven’t seen shredding until you’ve seen the Gam-dog in concert. Now get the [flippin' heck] out of my way, I need to go max the backstage buffet and trash my dressing room.” [Ed. Note: This comment was particularly strange given that our interview took place at Gammons' New England cottage.]

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
