NEW YORK, NY — Sunday Night Football on NBC was a huge success in 2006, due in large part to the way the network presented the games with cutting edge graphics and enough star power to make Hollywood jealous. Essentially, NBC spent the year trying to attain the same kind of popularity and familiarity that Monday Night Football has had for years.
One of the most recognizable aspects of MNF is its “Are You Ready for Some Football” theme song, performed by country star Hank Williams, Jr. Fans sing along with Williams as they “pregame” before watching the Monday contest. NBC knew that it was important to find a performer for their intro that could create energy for the fans, and took their time making a decision.
After months of deliberation, the network chose Pink to sing their opening them and found that – surprisingly – fans would watch a football game despite an introduction featuring a pop artist with pink hair. Unfortunately, Pink will not be back in 2007 due to scheduling conflicts that would prevent her from recording the weekly segment.
The network has wasted no time in finding her replacement, and was thrilled to announce that Celine Dion will be the new face of the Sunday Night Football franchise. The songstress will write an original piece of music that is sure to get fans ready for some hard hitting NFL action.
“I think fans of the NFL want a song that will touch their hearts. Something to make people want to hold tight to the one they love. That’s what the NFL is all about,” Dion said.
Fans across the country are sure to be shocked by the announcement, but can rest assured that Pink is not completely out of the picture. “If all goes as planned, we’ll have the collective genius of both incredible artists in 2008,” Titanic super-fan Costas said. “We’re doing everything we can to fit ourselves into Pink’s busy recording and touring schedule.”

It’s going to be tough for this sport to sweep any nations, but it’s still pretty frickin’ cool!
