Hockey to hold playoffs despite lack of attention
NEW YORK — In a poorly attended Sunday afternoon press conference, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced that the league plans to hold their semi-annual postseason tournament despite the fact that no one is paying any attention. “We generally intend to have playoffs every time we have a regular season,” Bettman said. “There was some talk of just skipping the postseason this year – you know, because nobody’s watching – but we decided to go through with it anyway. More for posterity than anything, really, but the teams have their leases arranged and all that. It would probably be more of a hassle to cancel it at this point than to just get it over with.” Bettman was unsure whether the NHL would be able to find a network television station willing to air its playoff season in America, but seemed confident that a Canadian channel would show at least the Stanley Cup Finals.
