BOISE, ID — In a fitting conclusion to a miracle season, the Boise State football team ran a gimmick offense to narrowly avoid a mammoth bill from their post-season banquet at an area Bennigan’s. The team and staff left head coach Chris Petersen and QB Jared Zabransky behind in the private dining room to take care of the check. As the pair waited, the rest of the team piled onto the bus and pulled around to the back of the restaurant. When the unsuspecting waitress Jane Franklin brought the check, Petersen pointed out a minor error; as she returned to the kitchen to fix it, coach and QB quietly slipped out the emergency exit and onto the running bus. “I never saw it coming; not for a second,” Anderson said. “Maybe it’s because they have such nice faces - they totally caught me off guard. I can see why the Oklahoma defense fell for that Statue of Liberty play.” For Zabransky and Petersen, it was just more of the same. “We’re used to succeeding when others expect us to fail,” the coach told reporters at the post-theft press conference. “Tell us we can’t beat a major conference power in a bowl game, we’ll do it. Think feeding a 53-man football roster for free is impossible? It’s not!” No word on whether Petersen or any of his players will be prosecuted after the publicity their stunt has generated.
