Beckham to US soccer fans: where’s the violence?
LOS ANGELES, CA — David Beckham has yet to play a minute of MLS soccer and he’s already making waves in the league. During a conference call earlier this week, the British soccer star told reporters he hoped to see American fans get more involved. “The fact that soccer fans over here don’t riot, loot or even get into good old-fashioned brawls at the pub has always bothered me. It’s not that I want people to get hurt,” Becks said. “I just think that violence shows a certain level of commitment. If you’re not willing to bloody a bloke’s face for your team, how can they know you really support them?” Beckham went on to say that his wife, Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, is also uncomfortable with the relatively peaceful behavior of US fans and worries that pent-up aggression will lead to non-sports-related violent offenses.
