Angelo following Krause blueprint

CHICAGO, IL — After time ran out on the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI, General Manager Jerry Angelo knew that for him, a new season was just beginning. It was time for him to prepare for the off-season; a time where players in the National Football League change teams as quickly as Britney Spears goes in and out of rehab clinics. How could Angelo possibly survive the off-season and make sure the Bears don’t regress? Simply put, by copying one of the most popular GM’s in the city’s storied sports history: Jerry Krause. Krause was the man behind the Chicago Bulls’ six NBA championships in the 90’s, and was responsible for tearing the team to unrecognizable shreds after the 1998 NBA Finals. Angelo took the time to learn about how Krause handled the team after the season and was encouraged by what he saw. “Jerry – yet another thing we have in common – was able to get rid of Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Steve Kerr, Luc Longley and Phil Jackson in one summer. You can’t argue with results like that,” Angelo said Wednesday. The new off-season approach is in full swing and has led to the departure of number one running back Thomas Jones, defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, and quarterbacks Coach Wade Wilson. With any luck, Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs will be out the door before summer minicamp. Somewhere, Jerry Krause is smiling.
