Texans see 2007 draft class, ask for 2006 do-over

INDIANAPOLIS — As the NFL Scouting Combine wears on, many teams are struggling to find prospects that fit their needs. The Texans, whose needs are as pressing and diverse as any team in the NFL, have found precisely what they’re looking for. “We know who our guy is, we just need another chance to get him. Vince Young is so right for this team for so many reasons,” said Houston GM Rick Smith. “He’s a local favorite, he’s a versatile and talented quarterback, and we love his personal character - we’re hoping to get another crack at him.” Apparently Smith’s plan hinges on assistance from former GM Charley Casserly, who left the organization to become the NFL’s Director of Football Operations immediately after choosing Mario Williams over Young and Reggie Bush in the 2006 NFL Draft. “That guy owes us, and now he’s in a position to pay off his debts,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak told reporters at the Combine. Casserly would not respond to the issue on the record, but off the record he admitted to SSNN that his position in the league office was contingent upon ensuring that Reggie Bush was available to the New Orleans Saints with the second pick last year.
