Offices around US crippled by Match Play pools
USA — The American working world is finally falling back into place after a wild weekend of office betting wreaked havoc on every business from the Ford plant to Wall Street. As so often happens this time of year, die hard fans and uninterested parties alike threw their ten dollars and a bracket into the proverbial hat for that great Tournament of 64: the Accenture Match Play Championship. “It’s basically impossible to focus on the tournament and the cash flow at the same time,” said Rita Sanderson, lead accountant for the now-bankrupt Albuquerque chain, Copies for Less. “The good news is, I made a killing in the office pool. That should tide me over until I can find another job.” Rita has no knowledge of PGA Tour professionals or even the game of golf, but won her office’s pool by choosing winners based on the color and style of their polo shirts. “That Henrik Stenson is so round-faced and cute, and he really fills out a LaCoste polo.”
