Moorman to attempt position change

HOUSTON, TX — The Texans made their first move of the 2007 offseason when they traded disappointing quarterback David Carr to Buffalo for Brian Moorman. After watching his -1 yard fake punt run in the Pro Bowl, Houston GM Rick Smith apparently plans to use Moorman on offense. “The offer was too good to refuse. When you have a chance to pick up a triple-threat type of player, you go out and get it done,” Smith said. “After we watched Brian’s performance on the receiving end of the Pro Bowl’s biggest hit, we believe he can be an effective rusher in this league. Then we obviously save a roster spot by using him as a backup kick-off specialist and emergency punter; basically it’s a no-lose situation. We’re talking about a guy who took [Redskins' safety] Sean Taylor’s best shot, popped right up and then told the media ‘it wasn’t as bad as it looked.’” Moorman is a 2-time Pro Bowl punter who has rushed for 40 yards on only seven carries in a distinguished six-year career, and has never missed a game due to injury. The former punter’s 5.8 yards-per-carry average is significantly higher than that of Domanick Williams (formerly Domanick Davis), with whom he will platoon in the Houston backfield.
