MIAMI, FL — On Wednesday afternoon, former NBA player Tim Hardaway appeared on a sports talk show on Miami’s 790 The Ticket and told host Dan Le Batard, “I hate gay people… I don’t like to be around gay people… [They] shouldn’t be in the world or in the United States.” Hardaway clarified his remarks early Thursday morning, saying “I want to be absolutely clear about this - it’s homosexuals that I hate, not the Gay family. I apologize to Rudy and his family if they misunderstood what I was trying to say. I think he’s a terrific young player, and Memphis just may have a future superstar on their hands. Once again: I’m disgusted by gays, but I have absolutely nothing against the Gays.” Hardaway made the apology at a press conference held to announce that his clothing line will release his #10 jerseys (Golden State and Miami) with the pseudonym “He Hate Gay” where “Hardaway” would usually appear.
