Cubs, Curse reach agreement on extension
The Chicago Cubs announced today that they have reached a 99-year, $99 million extension with the Curse. The Curse’s contract was due to expire after this season and it reportedly told team officials that if an extention was not reached before the season started, it would not resign with the Cubs after this year. “Cubs management saw what happened with the Red Sox in 2004,” said Steve Bartman, agent for the Curse. “They didn’t want that to happen here. They stepped up and made an offer we couldn’t refuse.” While the Curse’s role for the 2007 season is not yet set, Bartman said it is open to almost any role with the team. “My client will do what it has to do to keep this team losing.”
