Bonds campaigning for 2008 HoF eligibility
SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Barry Bonds arrived at Giants camp early last week to find a horde of media anxiously awaiting his thoughts as he embarks upon what projects to be his last season, and the one in which he finally breaks the most hallowed record in baseball. Barry, however, has other things on his mind - like Cooperstown. When asked whether suspicion of steroid use would haunt his Hall of Fame candidacy, Bonds told reporters he has a plan to avoid just that. “Look, everyone agrees that I was a Hall of Famer before 2001, when all these accusations came out of nowhere” Bonds argued. “I was a star back when my hat size was 6. The way I see it, the drug-free portion of my career should be eligible for the Hall now.” The San Francisco slugger also suggested that even without his stats ranking among the all-time greats, he would still belong in Cooperstown as arguably the biggest jerk in baseball history, or at least since Ty Cobb.
