JACKSONVILLE, FL — Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor’s SMSing is absolutely out of control, according to annoyed teammates, who have asked coach Jack Del Rio to put a stop to it.
An anonymous player had the following to say: “At first it was cool, he’d send you a text saying ‘Nice game’ or ‘Congrats on the shorty’ or whatever. Major life events, you know. Now, it’s like, there’s no point to it. I get four, five text messages a day.”
Taylor is believed to have discovered text messaging shortly after the conclusion of the 2004 season, and has been steadily increasing his usage ever since. Reports indicate that Taylor is sending 50-60 text messages a day. Often, according to the anonymous player, the text messages contain little substance, mixed with random movie quotes and the mundane details of the running back’s life.
SSNN obtained a text message, believed to have been sent from Taylor to Ernest Wilford on Tuesday, that uses Taylor’s trademark backwards spelling of his first name: “Supdog. FT here. Going 2 D store. You need me on that wall! – Derf.”
Del Rio could not be reached for comment, but other players are putting the pressure on him.
“I had to ask coach to put a stop to it,” said WR Reggie Williams. “The other day, it’s two-thirty in the morning, I’m trying to get some sleep, and all of a sudden I get this text message. Freak, right? Two-thirty in the morning. I’m flipping out, like something happened, I run to check my phone. You wanna know what it said? ‘Save the Cheerleader, Save the World.’”
